Who We Are

MUKTI Crafts is a social business initiative of MUKTI NGO dedicated to empowering rural communities—especially women—through sustainable livelihood opportunities. Our mission is to build a trusted platform that supports the production, promotion, and marketing of handcrafted products made by Self-Help Groups (SHGs) across the Sundarbans.

We work closely with skilled and aspiring rural artisans to help them create high-quality handmade products such as:

Our goal is to create a reliable supply chain, enhance income stability, and give rural artisans a dignified platform to showcase their talents.

The Story Behind MUKTI Crafts

In the remote village of Purba Sridharpur in the Sundarbans, families have long struggled with limited livelihood options. Farming and daily wage labour were the primary sources of income, often insufficient to support a household. Women, despite their strong determination, had little opportunity to contribute financially due to limited education and lack of work experience.

To change this situation, these women approached MUKTI NGO, an organization with over 15 years of experience in creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for rural communities. With guidance and support from MUKTI, they formed Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and received hands-on training in various craft-based skills, such as food processing, sola craft, toy making, and eco-friendly jewellery production.

These women quickly transformed from homemakers into skilled artisans. With the help of initial financial and material support, they began producing high-quality handcrafted items from their homes. Their skills grew, their confidence increased, and soon they started earning a supplementary income.

However, despite producing excellent products, selling them in the market became a major challenge. To ensure that the artisans could earn consistently and gain access to a larger customer base, MUKTI created a community-driven business platform—MUKTI Crafts—to support the marketing, branding, and sale of SHG-made products.

Our Journey and Vision

Over the past few years, we have worked tirelessly to train and uplift hundreds of rural women artisans. Today, we have a growing network of confident, skilled craftswomen who are building better futures for their families.

The four pillars of MUKTI Crafts are:

By focusing on these values, we aim to build a sustainable, socially responsible business model that transforms rural lives. We invite you to join us in our mission—supporting handmade, eco-friendly products not only enriches your life but also uplifts entire communities.
